WHEN TO PRAISE YOUR CHILD AT SWIMMING.
As parents, we want the best for our children. We want them to feel safe, encouraged, and confident. These are the same feelings we want your children to think in the water.
With constant praise, a child can feel frustrated because they can feel the recognition is just words which have little or no meaning. We need to make sure that we are delivering praise at the correct time when in a swimming lesson to ensure that your children are striving to achieve while in their swimming class!
Praise your child in the water only when they achieve the set task. If that task if not met in full, don’t praise! Instead, give feedback and have them try again.
Example: ‘I can see you tried very hard to pick the toy up from the bottom of the pool, but next time show me how you can reach the toy with your beautiful bubbles.’
We are not only building a child who can swim, but we are trying to develop resilient children who are prepared to learn and grow.
At School of Little Swimmers, we are here to help to make this transition a smooth one. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
